April 20th Battle at Hasting Island
I would like to thank all of the guys on this forum as well as those that spread the word on the battle. Thanks to Marv for reorganizing our group and giving us a virtual area to chat. The battle was pretty much nonexistent. Apparently the German Contingent thought that WWII ended in June of 1944 because they didn't bother to show up
There was one German and at about 7:00am a few more showed but not enough. The Island is pretty much just grass land with some ditches and water dikes. There are a few foot bridges and some road bridges. The area looks very much like Holland. Pretty much crawling through the grass and banzai charges across large expanses of grassy plain. Better than nothing and much appreciated for the 101st for putting on the show. Wish it worked out better.
Our encampment at Tower Park was a blast with almost everyone showing up. It was a "Battle Ground" type tent with lots of cots jammed in there. The 82nd Contingent just started sacking out when Lt. Hagins showed and had us suit up for inspection and an inspirational talk. After an hour or two of sleep we headed out to the DZ and dropped. Since the Germans didn't show up we had no opposition except for Ken Weatherall, who was shot up by me when our French Farm Boy yelled "BOCHE". Ken was winged in the arm and is thankful that I'm a poor shot.
We spotted more Troopers in the field and hooked up with them and moved up the road to find out that we had all been misdropped. We moved again and found out that the area was secure and all Germans had been vaporized by some unknown entity. Mike set up a training scenario while some of us blazed back to Tower Park.
It was good to see how the turnout of our group can be with some effort.
Thanks to all involved, sorry it wasn't as good as it coulda been.

- We camped at Tower Park and a few at Hasting Island
- Our attendance was OUTSTANDING!
- We had over 20 guys, as much or more than the 101st AB.
